When it comes to making modest fashionwear available at the click of a button, Salgai Tooryalai is on the case with SANAA Women’s Fashion, an online store based in Ottawa.

Jamaal Jackson Rogers is a Black Muslim Canadian Spoken Word poet in Ottawa. He has coached and supported several of the city’s up and coming Spoken Word poets. Muslim Link interviewed him about his personal journey as an artist.

Sexual abuse, pornography, birth control — for many Muslim parents, the thought of discussing sensitive subjects such as these with their children makes them very uncomfortable.

But it shouldn’t, according to Sameera Qureshi, a Calgary-based occupational therapist. She recently held a workshop called “The Talk: How to Educate Your Children about Islamic Sexual Health” for the first time in Edmonton. The session was held in collaboration with Tarjuma, a local group that creates gatherings to facilitate the growth of community, Islamic literacy and emotional wellness.

Ihsaan Gardee is the Executive Director of the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) based in Ottawa. He was honoured with the Civic Courage Award at Mississauga’s MuslimFest in August of this year for his service to Canada’s Muslim community.

When I woke up this morning, I felt different. Today, there was a distinct difference in what it meant to be Muslim in Canada than it did yesterday.

An unprecedented number of Muslim Canadians ran in the 2015 Federal Election. With the Liberal surge nationally, particularly in the Greater Toronto Area, several of them won, including Canada's first Somali Canadian MP Ahmed Hussen and Canada's first Afghan Canadian MP Maryam Monsef. The majority of Muslim Canadians who will be coming to Parliament are newcomers to politics with the exception of Omar Alghabra and Yasmin Ratansi who were previously Liberal MPs. So far, we have confirmed 11 Muslim Canadian Candidates in total, the largest number in Canadian history. 10 were elected with the Liberal Party and 1 with the Conservative Party.

What do women who wear the niqab and women who choose to go topless in Canada have in common? Both make a lot of people very uncomfortable. Both have had their rights upheld by Canadian courts. And, both may be overreacting against real or perceived attitudes towards female sexuality.

There has been a great deal of controversy raised as the right of Zunera Ishaq to wear the niqab during her citizenship ceremony has become an election issue. Muslim Link received this letter to the editor in response to politician's statements and media coverage of this issue.

Last federal election, 58.5% of all Canadian eligible voters went to the polls to vote. Of that 58.5% who voted, 39.6% voted for a Conservative candidate.

This means that 23.97% of all eligible voters picked the current government.
