Like all of the victims of the Quebec mosque shooting, Mamadou Barry's death not only impacted his family-leaving behind a widow, two young orphans, and his recently widowed mother who had just come to live with her son in Quebec City- it crushed the dream of access to clean drinking water for his village in the West African country of Guinea.

Barry was raising funds to install a 100-meter-deep well in his village, located outside of Labe, Guinea's second-largest city.

With schools open again in Ontario, there have already been numerous concerns from administrators, teachers and students alike, and those concerns have dominated discussions around schooling during the Covid-19 pandemic.

I was recently introduced to Zeelaf Fatima, a young Muslim woman in Mississauga, who is working on a passion project that documents the histories and stories of Canada’s earliest South Asian Muslim immigrants.

Language is not a mere tool of communication, but also serves as a means to understand each other.

The Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC), the Peel Regional Police (PRP) and its Board (PRPSB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) committing to develop and implement legally binding remedies to identify and eliminate systemic racism in policing, promote transparency and accountability, and enhance Black, other racialized and Indigenous communities’ trust in policing throughout Peel Region.
