Check Out Refugee 613's Welcome to Ottawa Brochure for Refugee Claimants
Written by Refugee 613Did you know Canada was the 5th largest recipient of new individual refugee claims in 2023?
According to the UNHCR 2023 Global Trends Report, Canada received a total of 146,800 applications and resettled nearly 51,100 refugees, primarily from Afghanistan (16,600), Eritrea (9,200), Syria (8,400) and Somalia (4,300) in 2023.
For many refugee claimants, adjusting to life in Canada can be challenging: you’ve got to learn new information, complete legal paperwork and forms, and find housing – sometimes in a new or unfamiliar language.
At Refugee 613, our roots are local, and our impact is national. We want to help all refugee claimants and newcomers feel more comfortable, so they can build their lives in a new community feeling confident, connected and informed. That’s why we closely collaborated with local partners to create the Welcome To Ottawa Brochure For Refugee Claimants!
The Welcome To Ottawa Brochure For Refugee Claimants is one of our favourite tools that we developed in collaboration with local partners to support refugee claimants in our home base, Ottawa!
It’s a simple guide that provides claimants with an overview of the local services available to them. It also acts as a jumping off point for claimants to find the services and organizations that best suit their individual needs!
The brochure can help refugee claimants access:
- Food and clothes
- Shelter
- Legal advice
- Transportation
- Healthcare services
- Emergency responders
- Schools
- English and French language classes
- and more!
Plus, it’s available in 6 languages: English, French, Creole, Spanish, Turkish, and Arabic
