Editor's Note: After the publication of my reflection on CBC's documentary about polygamy among Muslims in Canada, we have received numerous responses from Muslim Canadians whose lives have been impacted by polygamy in Canada in both positive, but mostly negative ways.
A recent CBC Fifth Estate episode about polygamy among Muslim Canadians and its accompanying article has sparked online debate among Muslims.

Muslim Link ran into popular comedian Baba Ali at this year’s I.LEAD Conference. Although well known for his comedy and children’s programming, Baba Ali also works on the very serious issue of Muslims and Marriage. He runs the matrimonial site “Half our Deen” aimed at helping Muslims find the right match. We interviewed him about why he set up the website and the challenges he is seeing among Muslims when it comes to having healthy marriages.
Many people will spend months and sometimes even years preparing for a wedding that will last a few hours, not to mention the tens of thousands of dollars invested as well. But how many people actually prepare for marriage itself, which could last a lifetime, by ensuring they have selected the most suitable partner, based on the criteria set out by the Quran and Sunnah (tradition of the Prophet, may peace and blessings be upon him) and the advice of experts in the field of forming healthy relationships that lead to successful marriages?
