Muslim Voters Exceeded Margin of Victory in 86% of Swing Races in Alberta Election
Written by The Canadian Muslim VoteCALGARY, AB – The Canadian-Muslim Vote (TCMV), a non-partisan voter mobilization and education charity, published a list of 18 electoral divisions where preliminary results show Muslim voters exceed the margin of victory in 18 electoral divisions, including 12 of the 14 (86%) won by 5% or fewer votes.
A further four electoral divisions where Muslims were within around 500 votes of the margin of victory include the remaining two divisions won by 5% or less.
Umair Ashraf, Executive Director of TCMV, explained “The Alberta election swung around Calgary, where results show Muslim voters have the numbers to make the difference. We are loudest when we vote, and this election shows when we make our voices heard we can determine who wins and loses. Issues important to Muslim Albertans such as affordability are crucial because our votes are crucial.”
Of the 18 electoral divisions, 17 (94%) were predicted by TCMV in a May 25, 2023 media release to be won by fewer votes than the number of Muslim voters. Of TCMV’s earlier predictions, 16 of the 18 (86%) predictions were correct about electoral divisions called to be won by fewer votes than the number of Muslims.
