LONDON TERROR ATTACK VERDICT MUST BE STEP TOWARDS HEALING FOR FAMILY AND COMMUNITY
Written by National Council of Canadian MuslimsNovember 15, 2023 London, Ontario—We are relieved that justice has been served to the terrorist behind the London terror attack that cut down four members of the same Muslim family.
We hope that this final chapter in the legal saga following the attack will soon serve as a step toward healing for the affected family and the community in London, Ontario.
“The attack that happened over two years ago changed Canadian Muslims’ relationship with their country,” said NCCM Chief Operating Officer Omar Khamissa. “For the first time for many of us, we felt unsafe and targeted just for walking down the street.”
It is time to build a better Canada that truly challenges the spike in Islamophobic hate crimes that has plagued Canada. We have become a leader among G-7 nations in Islamophobia-related fatalities.
We hope that Canadians will remember what happened in London over two years ago and pay attention to the violent Islamophobia that has afflicted so many in our communities. It is time for serious reflection. It is time for change.
Please give the affected family the appropriate distance to mourn and heal. We hope that everyone, including the media, will allow the family the privacy needed to process what happened and move forward.
