All praise is for Allah Almighty. May the peace and blessings be upon the Messenger )وسلم عليه الله صلى his family, the faithful companions and all those who follow them.
Intending to focus on the higher objectives of the Shari'äh and foster unity in the local community, the Council of Imams of Ottawa-Gatineau (the Council) has resolved to align observation of Eid al-Adha following the day of 'Arafah. Accordingly, the Council has accepted the first of Dhul Hijjah to be Wednesday, May 28, 2025, as announced officially for the Hajj. Therefore, In Sha' Allah, Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on Friday, June 6, 2025.
The Council of Imams encourages community members to benefit from the best ten days of the year and observe fasting on the Day of 'Arafah, which will be on Thursday, June 5, 2025, In Sha' Allah. Ibn Abbas عنه الله رضي )reported that the Prophet )وسلم عليه الله صلي )said : There are no days during which righteous action is so pleasing to Allah than these days (i.e., the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah) ..." (al-Bukhari).
On behalf of the Muslim community of Ottawa-Gatineau, the Council extends its best wishes to all Canadians and Muslims on these auspicious days of Hajj and Eid al-Adha. Once again, the community is hereby reminded to make special dua and supplication for all those innocent human beings subjected to undesired war and aggression. The Council urges everyone to be generous and to look out for those in need locally and worldwide while supporting local food banks and established charities. Sharing the sacrificial meat with friends and neighbours is indeed virtuous and highly recommended.
Let us remember our blessings and celebrate Eid in the spirit of inclusion, forgiveness and reconciliation.
