Edmonton – As a part of the Extreme Weather Response activation, the Al Rashid Mosque will reactivate its winter shelter and open its doors to provide a safe and warm space for Edmonton’s most vulnerable citizens.

The Alliance to End Homelessness Ottawa, in partnership with the City and community organizations, is seeking help from private landlords to provide 100 affordable-housing units.

The Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) is working with the City of Toronto and United Way of Greater Toronto to organize a Friday prayer at Nathan Phillips Square.

Members of Edmonton's Al Rashid Youth Club, based in North America's oldest mosque, raised $10,000 for the Bissell Centre's annual New Year's Day Dinner.

On the cold Saturday morning, on January 14th, a group of students from multiple University of Ottawa Muslim student associations rose early and went out to warm the hearts and fill the stomachs of people who are homeless in Ottawa. 

Al Jamia Masjid made headlines in late December, when it became a temporary overnight shelter for Vancouver’s homeless during a cold spell that cost people their lives.

Muslim Link reached out to 22 year old Pakistani Canadian Abubakar Khan, who spearheaded the initiative, to learn more about how he and his multi-faith group of friends made such a great act of community service possible.

University of Ottawa students Nora Abdalaal, Tuba Yousuf, Jawdat Saleh, and Nour Khalaf, have raised enough funds to provide meals for a number of people at the Ottawa Mission this Friday, June 24th.  Volunteers are still welcome to get involved to help with preparation and distribution.
