IslamicFamily Major Gifts Officer (Part-Time)
Job Type: Part-time 20 hours per week
Reports To: Community Relationships Manager
Location: Edmonton - in office 1-2 day a week, visiting individuals 1-2 days a week
Salary: 45k per year

Position Overview
The Major Gifts Officer will play a pivotal role in securing significant financial contributions to support IslamicFamily’s expanding services. This position is responsible for cultivating and maintaining relationships with high-net-worth individuals, corporations, foundations, and community leaders. The Major Gifts Officer will work closely with the Community Relationships Manager to design and implement strategies for major donor engagement and stewardship, aligning with IslamicFamily’s mission and growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Donor Cultivation and Stewardship: Develop and manage relationships with major donors, ensuring ongoing engagement and personalized stewardship. This primarily includes regularly calling and interacting with donors.
- Major Gift Acquisition: Identify, qualify, and solicit high-net-worth individuals and institutional donors capable of making gifts of $10,000 or more.
- Major Event Execution: Plan and coordinate major fundraising events, ensuring personalized donor engagement, meaningful experiences, and alignment with IslamicFamily’s mission.
- Strategic Fundraising Planning: Work with leadership to develop and execute comprehensive major gift strategies that align with the organization's short- and long-term goals.
- Proposal Development: Prepare tailored proposals and presentations for potential major donors, articulating IslamicFamily’s impact and the strategic value of their contributions.
- Prospect Research: Conduct in-depth research to identify prospective donors and their philanthropic priorities.
- Donor Recognition: Create and manage recognition programs to acknowledge major donors in a way that reflects their values and deepens their connection with IslamicFamily.
- Event Coordination: Collaborate with the team to plan and execute fundraising events targeted at major donors, ensuring meaningful engagement.
- Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all major gift activities and provide regular updates to the Director of Fund Development.
30 day milestones
- Complete onboarding and gain familiarity with IslamicFamily’s mission, programs, and key services.
- Review current donor portfolio and conduct research and analysis to identify major donor prospects, and understand IslamicFamily’s donor base.
- Develop a strategy that includes both the number of engagements and the quality of donor interactions, ensuring long-term relationship-building and alignment with donor interests.
- Schedule a minimum of 3 introductory engagements (meetings, calls, or events) with current or potential major donors, focusing on meaningful, personalized interactions.
60 day milestones
- Begin outreach to key major donor prospects and schedule meetings with high-net-worth individuals.
- Collaborate with leadership to refine major donor engagement and stewardship plans.
- Attend one community or donor-related event to build relationships and network with potential donors.
- Secure at least $20,000 in major gift commitments from new or existing donors.
90 day milestones
- Secure a minimum of $50,000 in major gift commitments from new or existing donors.
- Prepare tailored proposals and presentations for major gift prospects, demonstrating the impact of donations.
- Provide a progress report to leadership, highlighting wins, challenges, and upcoming donor opportunities.
- Finalize planning of major community event in Ramadan
Qualifications:
Mandatory
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to engage with diverse communities and donors.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, including experience drafting donor proposals and presentations.
- Proficiency in customer/donor management software and prospect research tools.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet fundraising goals.
- A commitment to the mission and values of IslamicFamily, with an understanding of Islamic charitable giving principles (Zakat, Sadaqah, etc.) being an asset.
Desired
- Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, nonprofit management, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in fundraising, with a focus on major gifts or corporate partnerships.
- Track record of securing major gifts ($10,000+) from individuals or institutions.
