United Muslim Organizations of Ottawa Gatineau Address Threat Targetting Member Mosque
Written by United Muslim Organizations of Ottawa GatineauMay 3, 2026 Ottawa-Gatineau – The United Muslim Organizations of Ottawa-Gatineau, representing 12 mosques across the National Capital Region, is deeply concerned by a recent violent threat directed at The Mosque of Aylmer, a member mosque.
We are grateful for the swift action of the Gatineau Police in apprehending a suspect and the reported seizure of weapons.
The police response helped prevent a potentially serious incident and brought reassurance to our community.
This incident is a reminder that threats against our places of worship are real.
Our mosques are spaces of prayer, learning, and community, and when they are targeted, it affects the sense of safety across our communities.
We remain committed to keeping our mosques open, welcoming, and safe, while working to strengthen awareness and preparedness.
We also encourage our elected officials to speak clearly against threats and acts of hate.
Such leadership helps reinforce that this behaviour has no place in our society.
We urge all communities across our region to stand together in rejecting hate and upholding the safety of every place of worship.
Signed,
