The Association of Palestinian Arab Canadians (APAC) organized their eighth annual Palestine Day on the Hill on June 13th, 2024 in the Sir John A MacDonald Building in Ottawa, Ontario.
The event was co-hosted by the office of Member of Parliament Matthew Green.
Unlike in previous years, this event did not involve any celebration or entertainment but instead included visual displays depicting images from the Nakba and a list of the names of Palestinians who have died since October 7th for attendees to view.
There was a line up of speakers discussing the current genocide in Gaza and the ongoing apartheid experienced by Palestinians in the region and the need for the government of Canada to take a stand.
Speakers included MP Matthew Green, MP Salma Zahid, MP Heather McPherson, Co-Leader of the Green Party Johnathan Pedneault, Dr. Yipeng Ge, and Dr. Nadia Abu Zahra.
The event was sponsored by local businesses and Palestinian and Arab organizations from across Canada including The Syrian Canadian Club, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (Montreal), Ottawa Run for Palestine, The Canadian Palestinian Professional Foundation (Toronto), Canadian Palestinian Association of Manitoba, Canada Palestine Cultural Association (Edmonton), and the Palestine House Toronto.
South Africa's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Naledi Pandor, provided a special message via video for the event.
