Statement from Hikma Public Affairs Council on the Arson Incident in North London
June 9, 2024 Hikma Public Affairs Council is aware of an arson attack on a private family residence in north London.
This act of terror comes after multiple incidents in which signs that commemorate Our London Family and call for the protection Palestinian human rights, placed at the residence’s private front yard, were repeatedly destroyed. Some incidents included written threats. This incident comes at the same time as London, and Canada, commemorate the hate-fueled terror attack against Our London Family that took place three years ago on June 6, 2021.
Hikma and the relevant stakeholders are working closely with the London Police Service to ensure that this hate-related crime is appropriately addressed, and that the perpetrator is held accountable.
We also call on all officials, at all levels, to explicitly condemn this incident and ensure that their language and actions do not put Canadians in harms’ way. Irresponsible, divisive, and fear-mongering language and policies contribute directly to violent hate-fueled incidents.
Hikma Public Affairs Council will continue working closely with the London Police Service and the relevant stakeholders on this issue and we ask our community members and community partners to stay vigilant and immediately report all hate-related incidents to the police.
