Canada Calls for an Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza: UN Vote
Written by National Council of Canadian MuslimsAfter 66 days of some of the worst violence against civilians the world has seen in decades, Justin Trudeau has finally joined many other countries in calling for a ceasefire.
Our community stood up like never before to push for this crucial milestone in creating a just and lasting peace in Palestine, and today, we see the result of our efforts.
You sent millions of emails; you made thousands of phone calls; you marched in the streets. From parliament to the courts, from our homes to the public square and everything in between, our community came together like never before to stand up for Palestine.
But now that the government has made this call - our work must genuinely begin.
This essential step sets the stage for Canada to embark on the work that must now be done to stop the cycle of bombing, death and destruction once and for all.
Our collective advocacy started with a push for the Canadian government to make its values of peace real by calling for a ceasefire. Now that the call has come, the end of the beginning nears as we shift our attention from words and wishes to lift this ceasefire policy into the reality of action and deeds.
With renewed conviction and determination, we will be working harder than ever, and we know that you will continue to stand together as we push for peace and Justice.
