A 32-year-old man charged with hate-motivated offences (Islamophobic Attack Against Women in Hijab)

At approximately 9:15 a.m., officers responded to a call regarding an unprovoked assault in the 3000 block of Carling Avenue.

Ottawa Police Hate and Bias Crime Unit is investigating an incident of an assault on a woman wearing a hijab, who was approached by a man shouting hate slurs.

A 32-year-old man has been charged with two counts of assault.

The victim and the suspect were not known to each other.

The victim has been offered access to community supports.
