When journalist Assia Boundaoui investigates rumors of surveillance in her Arab-American neighborhood in Chicago, she uncovers one of the largest FBI terrorism probes conducted before 9/11. Through a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter her investigation became the documentary "The Feeling of Being Watched".
Muslim Link had the opportunity to interview Palestinian Canadian cinematographer and documentary filmmaker Sura Mallouh about her upcoming documentary about a teenage Syrian refugee in New Brunswick for CBC and the joys and challenges of being Muslim while filmmaking.
The documentary "I Am Rohingya" is coming to theatre in Ottawa (May 9), Toronto (May 11), and Waterloo (May 13). The team behind the film is partnering with local organizations in each city to host the screenings, such as Inter Pares in Ottawa, a non-governmental organization that has been working with human rights activists in Burma for decades.
"I Am Rohingya" chronicles the making of the play "I Am Rohingya" by a group of Rohingya refugee youth living in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario.
