About the Role: Imam & Educator
TARIC is seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and inspiring Imam/Educator to join our leadership team. As the spiritual head of the Centre, the Imam will lead religious services, offer community guidance, and provide education and outreach that reflects Islamic values and resonates with the needs of a Canadian Muslim population.
Reporting directly to the Executive Chairman and indirectly to the Board of Directors, the Imam will work closely with staff and volunteers to support TARIC’s mission of faith, education, and service.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily prayers, Jumu’ah khutbahs, Eid prayers, and Taraweeh during Ramadan.
- Deliver engaging sermons, lectures, and religious education sessions for adults and youth.
- Offer spiritual guidance, including premarital, marital, family, and career counselling.
- Support funeral and marriage services, including Islamic mediation and guidance.
- Manage and teach in weekend Islamic school programs; develop curriculum and supervise teachers.
- Conduct mosque tours and support interfaith outreach to build positive relations with the wider community.
- Participate in community activities, hospital/prison visits, and other religious services.
- Evaluate zakat applications and provide assistance with social services where appropriate.
Qualifications (Required)
- Degree in Islamic Studies or a related discipline from a recognized Islamic university.
- Minimum 3-7 years as a religious leader of a mosque with substantial number of worshippers
- Memorization of the Qur’an; strong recitation skills and tajweed mastery.
- Deep knowledge of and experience teaching of Qur’anic tafsir, hadith, Seerah, Fiqh, and Aqidah.
- Practical awareness of Fiqh diversity and ability to serve a multi-ethnic, multicultural community.
- Prior experience as an Imam or educator in North America or another Western setting.
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills in English.
- Demonstrated ability to counsel individuals and families and manage sensitive matters with discretion and tact
- Eligible to work in Canada (citizen or permanent resident).
Preferred Assets
- Training or experience in conflict resolution and interfaith dialogue.
- Experience leading Islamic education, da’wah, or youth programs.
- Knowledge of funeral rites and community-based services.
- Engaging personality with the ability to connect across age groups and backgrounds.
- Familiarity with community outreach and fundraising initiatives.
