Pacific Community Resources Society Youth Outreach Settlement Worker (Arabic Required)
Pacific Community Resources Society (PCRS) is a large not-for-profit agency that serves some of the most vulnerable people in our communities from Vancouver to Hope. We work with youth and vulnerable adults in the areas of education, employment, housing, substance use and mental health, and youth and family support services. PCRS is seeking an Arabic-speaking Youth Outreach Settlement Worker for the REACH Program, which supports newcomer youth with integration and settlement in their new community.
The successful candidate will empower and support newcomer youth ages 13-24 to overcome their challenges created by cultural and background differences. They will provide individual outreach support, in-depth assessment and one-to-one work with multi-barrier youth based on individual needs. Youth are initially identified as struggling due to multiple barriers and facing social isolation, pre-arrival trauma experience, and interruption in schooling. The position requires a solid working knowledge of the issues newcomers face arriving in Canada. This includes but is not limited to an understanding of the settlement process and the English Language Learner system in Canada.
Core service hours are Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm.
There will be a need for flexibility such as early mornings, later evenings, and at times, the occasional work on weekends to support youth events.
Responsibilities
- Connect with multi-barrier immigrant/refugee youth through off-site outreach meetings, motivating them to address and recognize individual barriers towards independence.
- Provide assessment of youth’s current life skills including academic level, independent living skills, communication, and social skills
- Develop and implement individual wraparound plans including participant defined primary and comprehensive goals.
- Provide youth with one-to-one support to accomplish specific goals.
- Assist youth in identifying their essential needs, self-care, community connectedness, employment, and education needs, i.e., identification documents, accommodation, resume, appropriate clothing, transportation etc.
- Provide community connection support to youth through outreach and various activities that take place in the community.
- Provide research assistance for education and training opportunities for youth in preparation for self-development.
- Attend and participate in all staff meetings, committee meetings and agency staff meetings.
- Liaise with contract partner agencies and referring agencies and other professionals as required.
Qualifications
- Degree in Child and Youth Care, or B.A. in a related field plus one year’s related experience, or a Child and Youth Care Diploma plus 2 years’ experience, or a combination of education and related work experience.
- Criminal record check including the vulnerable sector.
- Valid Class 5 B.C. driver’s license & access to a vehicle with business insurance.
- Driver’s abstract must be submitted.
- Advanced skills in speaking, writing, and reading in Arabic.
