Kitchener, February 23, 2024: In light of the sentencing of the killer of the Afzaal family, the Coalition of Muslim Women of Kitchener-Waterloo (CMW) stands in solidarity with the surviving members of the family, for this must be undoubtedly a difficult moment. The killings were designated as a “textbook example of terrorist motive and intent” by Superior Court Justice Renee Pomerance.
Editor’s note, Feb. 22, 2024: An Ontario judge has ruled Nathaniel Veltman committed terrorism in the murders of the Muslim Afzaal family in London, Ont. The judge also sentenced Veltman to five life sentences in prison for killing four members of the Afzaal family and injuring one in the June 2021 truck attack.

LONDON, ON, Feb. 22, 2024 Today, in the Ontario Superior Court in London, Justice Pomerance found that the crimes of 23-year-old Nathaniel Veltman constitute terrorist activity. This is an acknowledgement that the offender's horrendous attack was directed at Muslims and designed to intimidate all Muslims in Canada and spread a message seeking to tear apart the fabric of Canadian through hate and division.
