At a press conference today at City Hall, Paramount Fine Foods CEO Mohamad Fakih and Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie announced the #MississaugaChallenge to raise funds for The Mississauga Food Bank during the COVID-19 crisis.

Toronto, ON – April 6, 2020 – Second Harvest’s FoodRescue.ca is launching $4.5 million in new funding for communities.

Food banks and local food organizations provide help to Canadians across the country, particularly people and communities most vulnerable to economic uncertainty. These organizations are facing an increased demand for their services, and added pressure from shortages in donations and volunteers. Now more than ever, they need our support to continue offering the services Canadians rely on to feel safe and healthy.

Good Samaritans invite Ottawa to join in an Inter-Faith Food Drive to feed the poor and show heartistic unity with their neighbours’ faith communities.

The Kanata Muslim Association (KMA) has partnered with the Kanata United Church (KUC) to organize their third annual joint fundraising dinner for a community cause. This year they have partnered to raise funds for the Caldwell Family Centre, that runs programs for families in the Caldwell-Carlington area community, including one of the busiest food banks in the city of Ottawa. 

The Halal Monitoring Authority (HMA Canada) has partnered with Food Banks Canada to encourage consumers to donate halal foods to local food banks.

The Project Ramadan initiative was created under Muslim Welfare Centre of Toronto almost 10 years ago by a group of young adults who found themselves concerned about the food disparity within their local community.

This Sunday, April 22nd, they are coming to Ottawa to volunteer at the Ottawa Food Bank and raise awareness about food insecurity in Canada and they hope you wil join them.
