Calling on Imams to Join Orange Khutba Day (Sep 29) In Honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Sep 30)
Written by Justice for All CanadaSaturday, September 30th will mark the 3rd National Day for Truth and Reconciliation commemorating the atrocities faced by Indigenous communities of Canada, encouraging reflecting and healing.
Justice For All Canada, a Muslim-led human rights organization, is asking all Imams and Masajid (mosques) to dedicate their Friday khutbas (sermons) to the importance of inclusion and connectedness with Indigenous peoples in Canada.
We Must Remember!
As Muslims, we must acknowledge the injustices faced by the First Nations, Metis, and Inuit peoples. We cannot prevent and fight Genocide across the globe without first acknowledging the genocide that took place on the land we live.
And we request that our imams remind our communities that we now reside on the lands of those First Nations, Metis, and Inuit peoples, many or most of whom never ceded ownership.
Their history is marked by pain and suffering due to colonization, forced relocations, residential schools, and the erosion of their cultural heritage. You have the opportunity to use your voice to emphasize the importance of Muslim involvement in Healing and Reconciliation.
They continue to affirm that they hold an enduring trust, to nurture, care for, and defend all that dwell within these waters, earth and air.
Let us commit to learn how to be honorable and trustworthy allies that stand with the oppressed in meeting this test (amtihan) and responsibility (amana).
If you would like to register to participate in the Orange Khutba Day Campaign, after which you will receive a Khutbah talking points.

Wear Orange: Orange Shirt Day represents remembrance and healing for Indigenous communities.
Show Kindness and Compassion: Be kind and show consideration to Indigenous communities who are hurting as they reflect on their history.
