The Islamophobia Legal Assistance Hotline and the Canadian Council for Muslim Women is hosting a “Know Your Rights” workshop series designed to provide community members with practical tools to navigate and challenge Islamophobia in everyday life.
The first session will introduce participants to the concept of Islamophobia, with particular attention to how it is gendered and racialized. Facilitators will explain the Canadian legal framework, including Charter rights, provincial and federal human rights codes, and criminal law protections.
About the Facilitator: Hannan Mohamud is a lawyer who works at the intersection of criminal law, women’s rights, anti-Black racism, and international human rights. Her focus is on advancing justice for marginalized communities by bridging legal expertise with social justice advocacy. She holds a Juris Doctor (J.D.) in Common Law from the University of Ottawa, where she specialized in criminal law and international human rights, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Alberta.
