For this Harmony Circle, Spiritual Advisor Albert Dumont will be joined by Aisling Quinn and Yipeng Ge.
Aisling is a member of Irish Healthcare Workers for Palestine - a collective set up to advocate for the protection of Healthcare Workers, infrastructure, humanitarian workers and all civilians.
Yipeng is a primary care doctor and public health practitioner in Ottawa. In November 2023, Dr. Ge was suspended from his medical residency at the University of Ottawa for pro-Palestinian social media remarks critical of Israel. He has since become actively engaged in solidarity with Palestine and even went to Gaza as part of a volunteer medical team organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) in February of this year.
During this Circle, we will learn about solidarity with Palestine among Healthcare Workers - the efforts being taken in Ireland and Canada, and the differences in approach.
HOW DOES A HARMONY CIRCLE WORK?
It is online. Through Zoom. I send the link out about an hour before the meeting time.
Participants (the "audience") are muted to ensure that the Circle remains safe and supportive. Participants are there to listen and learn from Albert and the Guest Speaker(s). When we open the Circle up for questions and comments at the end of the conversation between Albert and the Guest Speaker(s) we do so through the chat - and I read the questions out loud.
Participants can keep their cameras off. They are never called on. And participants are invited to attend for as little or as long as they want to. I keep an eye on the waiting room throughout the call and let people in when they enter.
WHY ARE WE HOLDING THESE HARMONY CIRCLES?
With these Harmony Circle, we want to create a safe space for people to:
* learn more about the current genocide happening in Palestine
* express their pain at the injustice of the situation
* feel that they have a voice and are not being silenced
* dive deep into the practice of unlearning and learning
* create harmony within our communities
Session Standards:
* This event is for people who are curious, open to learning and unlearning and believe in social justice
* There will be zero-tolerance for violent, abusive, or racist comments - no Islamophobia or anti-Palestinian racism or anti-Semitism
* Everyone in attendance agrees that first and foremost, we stand to defend a human being’s right to live in a peaceful and secure space
