Afghan Canadian Sadaf Parweez recently made headlines in Durham region after graduating from UOIT. An Afghan refugee, Sadaf has overcome the obstacles many newcomers to Canada face when trying to pursue their education.

Muslim Link interviewed the recent graduate about her educational journey after coming to Canada as a refugee.

Muslim Welfare Centre and Project Ramadan came to Ottawa on April 22nd to work in partnership with the Ottawa Food Bank to build over 100 food baskets with the help of local volunteers and city officials, including Mayor Jim Watson.

Muslim Welfare Centre will be at Parliament Hill on Monday, April 23rd to build food baskets for those in need within the Ottawa community.

This event is part of our Feed Canada initiative that is intended to help raise awareness about food insecurity in Canada.

The Project Ramadan initiative was created under Muslim Welfare Centre of Toronto almost 10 years ago by a group of young adults who found themselves concerned about the food disparity within their local community.

This Sunday, April 22nd, they are coming to Ottawa to volunteer at the Ottawa Food Bank and raise awareness about food insecurity in Canada and they hope you wil join them.

The late Muhammad Abbas Ali, a British Indian Army veteran of the Second World War and who served in the Pakistan army, spent almost three decades working tirelessly for the community around McLevin Avenue where he had founded the Muslim Welfare Centre of Toronto.
