Gazan Canadians respond to the closure of the office of the Special Representative on Combatting Islamophobia.

The Canadian Council of Muslim Women (CCMW) expresses serious concern regarding the federal government's decision to eliminate the position of the Special Representative on Combatting Islamophobia and replace it with an advisory council structure.

Under the leadership of Amira Elghawaby, the Office of Special Representative (OSR) to Combat Islamophobia has advanced the work on Islamophobia for the first time nationwide.

February 4th, 2026 (Ottawa, Ontario) — The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) is deeply disappointed by the Federal government’s decision to dissolve the Office of the Special Representative on Combatting Islamophobia.
