Sakeenah Canada Therapist Manager
Every night, hundreds of Muslim women and children in Canada face homelessness, poverty, and trauma. Sakeenah seeks to provide a safe space for growth and empowerment for all of them. Sakeenah’s mission is to establish the largest network of sheltering projects that provide a safe and nurturing environment for Muslim women and children across the globe as well as provide end-to-end services for all who seek support.
About the Role
A vital part of our program is our therapist team. Therapists help individuals overcome their problems and cope with traumatic situations by providing a safe, confidential, and encouraging environment. We are looking for a Therapist Manager to supervise our current therapist and provide support, services, and programming to our clients. We are looking for a counselor that has experience providing therapy through different modalities. We are also looking for a therapist who is comfortable providing therapy in person, over Zoom or over the phone to a wide range of clients and has at least a year of experience supervising other therapists.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise a team of therapists to provide effective crisis support and therapy services
- Provide crisis support and therapy
- Establish a relationship of trust and respect with clients
- Complete intakes and needs assessments
- Complete safety planning with the clients as well review safety plans with therapist
- Provide transition planning and assistance
- Provide support in accessing community services, resources, and information
- Facilitate meetings with guardians in providing the best support for the children
- Help clients make decisions and challenge inconsistencies
- Encourage clients to talk about issues they feel they cannot share with others
- Work to agreed targets in relation to client contact
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions
- Keep up-to-date with knowledge of programs, resources, and referral services
- Refer clients to other resources, as necessary
- Maintain accurate case notes, files, and upholds confidentiality
- Provide updated therapy reports on a regular basis
- Utilize software for case management
- Adheres to all health and safety policies and procedures
- Performs other duties outlined by Sakeenah
- Must have their own liability insurance, to be renewed by staff annually
- Must have at least 1 year of supervision experience in the therapy field
- Fluent in Arabic an asset
Qualifications
- University education in a related field
- Social Work, Social Service Worker, Counselling Psychology, Psychology
- Degree, or certificate in counselling, therapy, or psychotherapy
- Commitment to women and children’s issues working within an anti-racism and Islamic framework
- At least 1 year of supervision in therapy experience; experience working with children
- Proven ability in case management and supportive counselling
- Non-judgmental outlook and a willingness to work with different types of people
- Excellent observation and listening skills
- Patience, tolerance, and sensitivity
- Experience in crisis support and ability to mediate conflict
- Organizational and time management skills
- Effective communication skills
- Dedication to team building
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities simultaneously with the ability to prioritize
- ASL is an asset
- Experience working with children on the spectrum is an asset
- Fluency in written and spoken English is necessary
- Any additional languages are an asset
- G2 license required
- Access to a vehicle required
Hours
Rotating shifts
Weekdays, weekends, evenings, and statutory holidays
40 hours per week
