
Muslim Welfare Home Outreach Housing Worker (Female Shelter)
The Muslim Welfare Home is an emergency shelter for women and children experiencing homelessness in Durham Region.
We provide a safe space for clients to stay and offer supports for securing housing. The shelter has a maximum bed capacity of 45 beds.
Location: 425 Dundas Street East, Whitby ON L1N 2J2

Shift: Evening (1:00PM - 9:00PM)
Salary: $45,000
Job Description:
- Providing resources, information and advocacy to clients
- Provide monitoring, evaluation and follow-up on housing related plan
- Provide clients with housing options from the private market.
- Provide clients with assistance in applying for Rent Geared to Income housing list
- Build relationships with landlords
- Document all client casework
- Complete data input into HIFIS
- Drive clients to housing viewing appointments
- Apply for financial assistance opportunities for clients
- Liaison between clients and other community organizations
- Provide referrals to appropriate programs and community organizations
- Conduct pre-intake assessment with potential intake over the phone
- Complete intake package with clients in office
- Provide clients with tours and essential items for their stay
- Ensure proper conduct of clients
- Enforce rules and regulations of shelter
- Provide basic shelter maintenance (refill food items, check exits, monitor security etc)
- Assist in the operation of the Muslim Welfare Home, wherever the need arises
Skills & Qualifications
- Communicate effectively with clients, staff, and volunteers
- Ability to resolve conflict situations and promote a positive work environment
- Administrative and organizational abilities
- Passion for helping vulnerable populations
- Able to provide Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Search
- Related work experience and education
- Must have a minimum of Social Work Degree (BSW) or Related
- Field work experience is preferred and an asset
- Crisis intervention skills
- Ability to build rapport and assist service users with goal setting
- Ability to work with diverse communities
- Valid CPR and First Aid Certification
- A valid Ontario driver’s license is required. Successful applicants must have access to a vehicle.
The person hired for this position will report to the Shelter Manager.
