Muslim Social Services Waterloo Region (MSSWR) is seeking a compassionate and culturally sensitive Registered Psychotherapist fluent in Arabic to provide counselling services to Arabic-speaking youth and their families. This is a part-time contract position with a focus on delivering culturally responsive therapy and emotional support, particularly for youth from immigrant, refugee, and newcomer communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Counselling & Psychotherapy: Provide individual and group therapy to youth clients and their families.
- Crisis Support: Deliver timely crisis intervention and support when needed.
- Youth Group Counselling: Design and facilitate group sessions that address relevant youth mental health concerns.
- Client Assessment: Conduct client intakes and assessments to determine therapeutic needs and strategies.
- Service Coordination: Work with schools, legal services, and community supports to connect youth with appropriate resources.
- Collaboration: Refer clients as needed and collaborate with other professionals and agencies.
- Follow-Up Care: Monitor progress and adjust care plans accordingly.
- Program Development: Create youth-focused workshops and therapy programs tailored to community needs.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Ensure programs are trauma-informed and responsive to cultural, religious, and linguistic needs.
Qualifications
- Registered Psychotherapist (RP) in good standing (e.g., CRPO).
- Fluency in Arabic (required).
- Experience working with youth in individual and group settings.
- Skills in crisis response, therapeutic assessment, and culturally responsive care.
- Experience with newcomer, refugee, and racialized communities.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage a youth-focused caseload.
Preferred Assets
- Knowledge of challenges facing Arabic-speaking and Muslim youth.
- Experience in culturally grounded therapeutic approaches for immigrant and refugee populations.
