Position: Full-time one-year contract position to start immediately. This position is in-person. Renewal to full-time permanent work is subject to funding.

The Muslim Resource Centre for Social Support and Integration (MRCSSI) is a not-for-profit, charitable, anti-violence and social support agency promoting family safety and wellbeing within London’s diverse communities.
Our services at MRCSSI are grounded in our innovative Culturally Integrative Model, serving immigrants and refugee newcomers and their established communities. MRCSSI uses the culturally integrative model to work with clients within its two pillars, prevention and intervention. Thus, our services and responses are client-centered and shaped through a family-focused, strength-based, and collaborative approach.
Functional Area
Intervention, assessment, counseling, case management, service coordination, advocacy, group program facilitation while promoting MRCSSI mission and vision.
Job Duties and Areas of Responsibility
The Social Worker will be responsible to provide counseling and support to families or individuals who might be struggling and/or at-risk and/or in crisis related to family stressors, conflict, violence, mental health, addiction, and integration. The focus of the work will be mainly on violence against women and children, such as but not limited to, family violence, IPV, GBV, DV, child abuse, elder abuse, etc.. These issues may stem from and/or be exacerbated by the impact of the migration journey, lack of social determinant of health, poverty, oppressive experiences, and integration difficulties.
The Social Worker will be trained to use MRCSSI’s innovation model, the Culturally Integrative Family Safety Response, and is expected to work with individuals and families to address their issues and concerns, and to empower them. The worker will be required to collaborate with client(s) to identify their struggles, resilience, and support systems to set their goals. The social worker will develop an intervention plan and provide services that are appropriate to meet the needs of client(s) and their best interest with a focus on ensuring individuals and family safety and wellbeing. The Social Worker will conduct risk assessment, risk management, and safety planning. Furthermore, the worker is expected to do a needs assessment to enhance the intervention services and ensure the safety and wellbeing of the client(s). The worker will also carry out crisis intervention when needed. The Social Worker will provide short term intervention, counseling, case coordination, case management, referrals to the needed community services, programs, system navigation, and advocacy.
In this role, the Social Worker is expected to work collaboratively with a range of external stakeholders and contribute to the continuous development of MRCSSI’s capacity to develop and deliver direct services to individuals and families to the highest professional standard and conduct. The worker may be called to do presentations within the community with regards to our services.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify client needs and develop intervention plan;
- Assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions in consultation with supervisor, which are timely and in the best interest of the client;
- Conduct risk assessment, determine risk levels, as well as the protective factors using risk assessment tools MRCSSI provides;
- Provide counseling and support to families, individuals, youth, and children;
- Ensure that client(s) are appropriately engaged with other services, programs, and activities, and be empowered to access services independently;
- Employ coordinated services to guide collaborative case planning and service delivery with community service providers;
- Attend case conferences in the community;
- Complete required documentation in a timely manner;
- Collect and input client information into the organization’s data system as required;
- Consult with the designated supervisor on a regular basis;
- Meet with clients in the office or in the clients’ home as appropriate;
- Provide information to groups of individuals for public education purposes or to promote agency services; and,
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by your supervisor or management, i.e. occasionally take on tasks outside the normal scope of your job.
Qualifications
Education: University degree in Social Work.
Professional designation: Member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
Ability to speak Arabic and knowledge of immigrant and refugee communities in London is an asset.

- Understanding and knowledge of violence against women and children, prevention and intervention, immigration and settlement are assets;
- Ability to conduct assessment and provide support and case coordination to individuals, youth and children, couples, and families;
- Ability to navigate, address, and problem-solve situations with families in crisis;
- Ability to work from a culturally-informed approach and communicate appropriately with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences;
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience in anti-oppressive practice skills;
- Upholds cultural safety and humility while working from equity, diversity, and inclusion framework;
- Highly organized and has the ability to work independently and in teams effectively;
- Strong written and verbal communication and comprehension skills in English;
- Ability to communicate effectively, speak, listen, and write in a clear, thorough but concise manner using appropriate and effective communication tools;
- Ability to speak, read, write in a language other than English, especially Arabic, is an asset;
- Excellent interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills;
- Excellent knowledge and execution of Microsoft Office; and,
- Knowledge in social media platforms is an asset.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working with persons with developmental disorders, understand the challenges faced by adults and children with special needs, are familiar with existing resources within the special needs network, and are able to navigate that system.
