Action Alert #59
Canada Cannot Remain Silent in the Face of Starvation and Slaughter in Gaza (Letter Campaign)
Today [July 21], Canada, alongside numerous allies, issued a statement calling for the war in Gaza to end immediately and stating that Canada is prepared to take action if more human rights atrocities persist.
While recognizing that the Israeli government is in a clear breach of international law, including the deprivation of aid, killing of civilians, including children, and the fact that Canada is now acknowledging these war crimes is an important step, these facts are essentially recognized as a matter of fact for the vast majority of Canadians and international law experts.
Given that Canada has indeed recognized that the Israeli government is in breach of international law, our country stands at a crossroads. We have a responsibility to hold those who are actively committing war crimes accountable.
We cannot continue to watch the horrifying scenes in Gaza play out every single day, and still deliberate when the right time is to take further concrete action.
We hope and urge that this statement leads to concrete action from Canada’s part, which includes imposing a complete two-way arms embargo, Magnitsky sanctions on the Netanyahu war cabinet, and a full review of CIFTA, given the Israeli government’s clear violation of the agreement.
Send a letter today and push Canada for change.
