Celebrate Islamic History Month at the Muslims in Canada Archives as we unpack the materials of distinguished journalist Haroon Siddiqui.
The Muslims in Canada Archives (MiCA) recently acquired the records of Haroon Siddiqui — a long time journalist, member of the Order of Canada, and the author of My Name is Not Harry: A Memoir.
Born in India in 1942 and moving to Canada in 1967, Haroon’s writings have offered important interventions in politics, immigration, media, Canada, and beyond. Throughout his distinguished and mainstream career, Haroon has embodied a defiant and proud assertion of his Muslim identity.
The nearly 90 boxes of printed matter compromise writings, correspondence, newspaper clippings, reports, and much more. The materials span Siddiqui’s 50 years working in journalism, across nearly 50 countries including Afghanistan, India, and Iran.
Marking our largest acquisition to date, the materials are slowly being processed by MiCA archivists as well as students invested in Muslim histories. Join us for an intimate conversation with Haroon as we discuss the materials alongside the stories, contexts, and experiences that brought them to being. The talk will be followed by a public Q&A.
Wheelchair accessible venue.
