After Ramadan, Muslims celebrate Eid by showing appreciation and gratitude to God through communal gatherings. You’ll see people wearing their best clothes, lots of food and gift exchanges. There is a lightness and a feeling of renewal and hope.
Newruz means “new year,” and is celebrated across central Asia by countries like Iran, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan,Turkmenistan, Kurdistan…a lot of counties that end with “stan.”
Newruz, which falls on the spring equinox every year, is also about renewal, gratitude and community. It’s amazing to see how different countries celebrate this occasion and ground themselves in their heritage. You could compare the occasion to eid but include a lot more dancing.
I don’t know if there will be any dancing at our potluck but there certainly will be great food, great people and great memories to be made.
Dress as if you’re going to a house party and bring a dish of your choosing.
We are going to see who makes the best jalebi’s so also bring a sweet tooth.
If you’re new to Sister Fit you will get TWO free classes that you can use up until the end of April.
