In light of the recent Islamophobic attack which occurred at the Ajax Public Library on March 22 against a young woman, Gender and Social Justice at Trent University, in collaboration with the Ajax Public Library, is organizing a public event which is free and open to all.
This roundtable discussion will include voices from the local and broader GTA community, advocacy groups, students, and academics, who will focus on broadening our collective understanding of the attack in an educative, open, supportive and thoughtful collective conversation.
Speakers are still being confirmed, but so far the roundtable will include interventions from:
Dr. Nadia Hasan - Gender, Sexuality & Women's Studies, York University
Marycarmen Lara- Villanueva - Diversity, Equity and Inclusion coordinator, town of Ajax
Rizwan Mohammad - National Council of Canadian Muslims
Areena Rahman - Student, Trent University
The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Nadiya Nur Ali - Sociology, Trent University
