Supporting Your Muslim Clients
Join us to learn essential aspects of Islam and Muslims to support your culturally sensitive care of diverse Muslim clientele. Areas of discussion will include an overview of Islam and Muslims with an emphasis on Edmonton’s Muslim demographics and contemporary issues affecting the community. Participants will:
- Gain a better understanding of Islamic cultures and values
- Learn about Muslim demographics and current social issues in Edmonton
- Learn about the most highly-recommended approaches for the care of Muslim clients through instructor's first-hand experience and published research
- Develop cultural competencies through guided lessons and case studies
Competencies developed through this workshop will not only support you and your team’s ability to provide effective and caring support for your Muslim clientele, but also increase your cultural awareness capacity to work with diverse clientele.
About the Facilitator:
Ibrahim J. Long, MSW, MA, is a passionate advocate for the integration of spirituality and mental health. He is a registered social worker and professional chaplain with over a decade of experience supporting diverse individuals and families in educational, healthcare, community-based, and correctional institutions. Presently, Ibrahim serves as the Youth Wellness Manager for IslamicFamily (IFSSA).
