Jamal Mayali is Professional Basketball Player, a rising star on the Palestine National Team & a McGill University Basketball legend. In 99 career contests over his four seasons at McGill, the shooting guard tallied 1,117 points & 334 rebounds overall. A two-time conference all-star who was voted RSEQ player of the year in 2021-22, Mayali became the 11th McGill player to merit All-Canadian honours. He went out on a high note at the USPORTS Final 8 national championship, where he was named player of the game twice in three contests, averaging 31 pts at the tournament in 2 games.
Dr. Yipeng Ge is a Chinese-Canadian, first-generation immigrant who grew up in Waterloo, Ontario, and completed his undergraduate studies at McMaster University in Health Sciences (Honours) with a specialization in Global Health. He is a family medicine physician and resident physician in Public Health & Preventive Medicine in Ottawa. Dr. Ge received a Master of Public Health degree at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health & has worked for various global health organizations including the WHO (Headquarters) in Geneva, Switzerland & the Population Health Research Institute in Hamilton, Ontario.
Dr. Ge is a member of the Board of Directors for the Canadian Public Health Association and Canadian Doctors for Medicare. He is passionate about tackling health and social inequities by addressing the social and broader determinants of health, including anti-racism work and practice in medical education. He was a member of the CIHR (Canadian Institutes of Health Research) Anti-Racism Advisory Committee, tasked with helping to shape and develop CIHR’s anti-racism action plan.
