Join us for an evening to listen to three East Turkestan activists who have been advocating for the rights of Uyghurs since the late 80s.- Rushan Abbas, founder of the Campaign for Uyghurs- Sheikh Albikim Idris, the Inspector General of the World Uyghur Congress, and - Mehmet Tohti, Uyghur Refugee Relief FundThe speakers will provide attendees with in depth knowledge of the Uyghur's perilous situation. Since 2016, It is estimated that over a million Uyghurs have been detained in government camps for “re-education”, where they are tortured, abused and forced to adhere to unethical practices by the Chinese government. Up to one in 12 Muslim residents languish in political re-education camps, according to the United Nations. Many have been confined for seemingly inoffensive activities. As a result of this unprecedented crackdown, thousands of Uyghurs have fled from their home in East Turkestan, Central Asia to Turkey to escape from this campaign of religious persecution. There are currently 120,000 Uyghurs who reside in Turkey, mainly in the cities of Istanbul, Kayseri, Eskisehir and Bursa. Having left everything behind for their safety, these vulnerable people live with meager food rations, inadequate shelter and clothing to withstand the winter weather of Turkey.Tickets are $35 per person, $20 for youth (Ages 6-12 years old). Children under five are free. Proceeds from these events will be directed to providing food and clothing to Uyghur families during the cold winter months of Turkey.
