United for All and Ottawa Muslim Community Services are pleased to host a meaningful and timely conversation that brings together staff, community leaders, youth advocates, policymakers, and funders from across the community services sector.
Together, we will explore the impacts of Islamophobia and Anti-Palestinian Racism (APR), share the challenges faced in supporting affected communities, and identify cross-sector solutions that foster safety, belonging, and equity.
This session will be a space for listening, learning, and collaboration—with an aim to build understanding, identify key actions, and drive change.
This will be a community conversation with:
- Ahmed El Khazndar, a psychotherapist with Ruh Care and Lanark County Mental Health, who brings extensive experience researching, supporting, and advocating for the health and well-being of the Palestinian and wider Muslim communities, especially youth.
- Samoon Tasmim, co-founder of Hosa Counselling and Research and a counsellor, educator and system consultant with Ottawa Muslim Community Services who has spent over a decade supporting historically marginalized communities through trauma-informed therapy, culturally responsive program design, and clinical supervision.
- Community partners, through a moderated open dialogue and Q&A.
Objectives include:
- Illuminate the lived experiences of Muslim communities impacted by hate, polarization, and discrimination.
- Highlight the unique nature of Anti-Palestinian Racism (APR) in Canada.
- Identify capacity gaps in delivering culturally relevant and effective supports to communities.
- Present pathways to action for funders, government, and community organizations.
- Announce ongoing activities that invite communities and partners to participate, support, and learn together.
