Greetings of peace,
Jan 29, 2020 will mark the third anniversary of the shooting in Quebec' mosque that took away the lives of 6 worshipers and injured another 19. Join us as we remember the victims and survivors in a community gathering on Tuesday, January 28th, at 5:30 pm at the Kitchener City Hall. The evening will also provide a rare opportunity to build your knowledge about Bill 21 in Quebec. We know that Bill 21 bans public school teachers, police officers and others public servants in positions of ‘authority’ from wearing religious symbols like kippas, turban, hijab, or crucifixes but Bill 21 is a lot more than that. Many have called the bill a thinly veiled sexist, racist, xenophobic and Islamophobic piece of legislation which is setting a very dangerous precedent in Canada about the protection of rights of religious minorities.
We also realize that 44% of Canadians (non-quebecoirs) support this bill. This event is a space space to engage in dialogue and ask the difficult questions.
Organized by the Coalition of Muslim Women of Kitchener-Waterloo
