The Islamic Society of Kingston is honoured to welcome back Dr. Yakoob Ahmed , a distinguished academic specializing in Islamic History. He holds Ph.D. from the prestigious School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London, and served as an Associate Professor at Istanbul University’s Faculty of Theology and Islamic Studies Institute. He most recently spent a year at the University of Tokyo’s Institute of Advanced Asian Studies. His work has been regularly featured on "The Thinking Muslim Podcast", including episodes such as “Ottoman Decline & Muslim Collective Amnesia” and "10 Ottoman Myths Debunked.”
Dr. Ahmed just published his first book – “Why History Matters” (2025, Ketebe) – and although the first edition is already sold out via pre-order (2nd edition now in press), the ISK has received select copies from the publisher for sale for this special event. Join us for a stimulating discussion around the history of how a unified ummah splintered into so many distinct nation states, and the repercussions that are being felt today as a result.
Light refreshments will be provided and there will be an opportunity to meet and interact with the author after the talk.
There is NO FEE to attend this event, but registration is required.
