From Mi'kma'ki to Palestine: Solidarity in Action
Date: Saturday, May 3, 2025
Time: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Location: 989 Young Ave
Event Description
Join Labour for Palestine Kjipuktuk/Halifax on May 3rd at 2:00pm for a panel discussion that will critically confront Israel's impunity in committing acts of apartheid and genocide against Palestinians, and Canada's failure to call out these crimes and work within legal, economic, and political frameworks to stop them. The discussion will demonstrate the ways Canada has contributed and benefitted from Israeli's illegal presence and policies in Palestine. Crucially, panelists will make ties between Israel and Canada as settler colonial states, the ways they prop up one another, and encourage awareness and resistance to colonial violence as it impacts Mi’kmaq and other Indigenous Peoples today.
Following the panel discussion, attendees are welcome to participate in discussions about relevant, achievable and heart-based actions residents of Mi’kma’ki can take to end Canada's complicity in Israeli apartheid and genocide, and take up our Treaty responsibilities to the people, land and water, and All Our Relations.
Panelists are:
- Gillian Austin - settler academic, Uphold the Treaties, & Mi'kma'ki Water Walker
- Neil Balan - Labour for Palestine
- Larry Haiven - Independent Jewish Voices
- Ajay Parasram - Dalhousie University
- Thunderbird Swooping Down Woman (Darlene Gilbert) - Mikmaw Elder, grandmother, water protector
