Get ready to be a part of something extraordinary with Western Muslim Initiative annual Muslim Art Movement event!
This year’s theme, Between Prayer and Protest, will showcase submissions that reflect the full spectrum of Muslim artistic expression - from traditional, faith-centered works to contemporary pieces exploring identity, culture and lived experiences within Islam.
The categories include:
- Traditional Islamic: Representational art of religious texts, sites and themes
- Contemporary Islamic: Modern interpretations of Islamic themes using a modern medium to convey a traditional message
- Cultural Islamic: Explorations of Islamic Identity elements other than the religion itself. Like history, storytelling, family dynamics, cultural practices without being too attached to religious themes
- Individual Identity: Explorations of individual identity as a Muslim. Exploring themes like migration, diaspora experiences, sexuality and self-identity within the context of religion
- Social & Political: Art focusing on socio-political issues relevant to Muslim communities, such as colonialism, justice, activism, feminism, representation etc.
The Western Muslim Initiative hopes to provide artists with a platform to amplify marginalized voices, foster a united community, and re-energize the ongoing fight for peace and justice. We hope you join the movement!
