Nokha Dakroub Mississauga Ward 9/10

Nokha Dakroub became a Peel District School Board trustee on Dec. 1, 2014. She is an activist, social worker with extensive experience working in schools and in the field of education. Like many Mississaugans, she is a first generation Canadian who came here with her family at a young age from Beirut, Lebanon. As a student at York University, she was heavily involved in social justice causes and activism for fairness and equity. Nokha went on to receive her Bachelor of Social Work and then a Master’s degree in Social Work. She is registered with the Ontario Association of Social Workers as well as the Ontario College of Social Workers. Over the last few years, Nokha has hosted a community television show on Rogers TV, taught courses in social work at a private college and been trained in cognitive behavioural therapy at a local health centre. Nokha worked as a Settlement Worker supporting schools in both the Peel board as well as the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board prior to her election as Trustee. She was responsible for helping newcomers and their families integrate into our education system. She understands the issues that students face in our schools and has experience working with them, their families, guidance counsellors and principals to resolve them. She also has experience working with post-secondary students. Nokha was a course instructor at a local private college in Mississauga as well as a Placement Supervisor for an Ontario University guiding students through their work placement during the summer months. Today, in addition to being a trustee, Nokha works as a Family Violence Counsellor at a local counselling centre for women in Erin Mills
