Treehouse was first launched in December 2016 with the intent of creating a safe-space for refugee children to prosper and grow in response to the gaping need found in the Ottawa community.
The goal of the program is to build a strong big-brother, big-sister relationship, in hopes that the children will develop a sense of trust and security in their mentor. We hope that the relationships cultivated through this program will provide the children with a secure base in this new phase of life, a crucial aspect for a smooth transition into a new culture.
Treehouse wishes to promote the values of acceptance, respect, personal growth, unity, understanding and many more through engaging activities. Examples of activities include group games, discussions, and Math and English tutoring to help the children reach the levels their day school require.
Our weekly one-and-a-half hour program allows for a consistent source of enrichment so that the children become comfortably adjusted and hence more able to integrate into this new society.
Treehouse volunteers aim to be role models and compasses in these children’s lives so that they undergo this major life change with the necessary support to adapt and achieve their potential.
