January 30, 2023 Ottawa, Ontario: On the occasion of National Day of Remembrance of the Québec City Mosque Attack and Action against Islamophobia, Charlotte Anne Malischewski, Interim Chief Commissioner of the Canadian Human Rights Commission, issues the following statement:
January 29th, 2024 – Oakville, On this day we remember Ibrahima Barry, Mamadou Tanou Barry, Khaled Belkacemi, Abdelkrim Hassane, Azzedine Soufiane, Aboubaker Thabti and all those who were injured or impacted when a terrorist gunman opened fire at the Centre Culturel Islamique de Québec in Sainte-Foy, 7 years ago.
On this National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia, we recall the tragic events of seven years ago. A lone gunman entered the Quebec Islamic Cultural Centre, killing six and injuring many. The impact was profound, leaving 17 children fatherless, six wives widowed, and communities nationwide affected. It remains the deadliest mass murder in a Canadian house of worship.
January 29th, 2024 In marking the 7th anniversary of the Quebec City mosque shooting, Justice For All Canada reflects on the gross loss of life and the enduring impact of Islamophobia. On this day, and in remembrance of the victims—Azzedine Soufiane, Abdelkrim Hassane, Mamadou Tanou Barry, Ibrahima Barry, Khaled Belkacemi, and Aboubaker Thabti—we honour their lives and stand in solidarity with their families and the impacted Muslim community in Canada and around the world.
