Young campers and staff had fun welcoming Ramadan at the 2013 Muslim Association of Canada's Ottawa Summer Camp.

The day camp held at Abraar School from July 2-12 attracted about 135 campers between the ages of 4 and 12. The theme of the camp was “It's all about Eid” and activities included: a club's day, a trip to Midway, and an Eid Carnival with henna, face painting, a bouncy castle, games, a camp memories movie and Eid loot bags for each camper. Campers also got into the spirit of Ramadan with a Food Gift Basket challenge to support the Sadaqa Food Bank. Volunteers, mostly teenagers, formed the backbone of the programme. MAC also had support from community organizations including youth diversion programs, such as the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board's Focus on Youth program -- giving at risk youth an opportunity to get valuable training and teamwork skills, along with their community service hours.
