Vigils Across Canada This Weekend Call for Justice After the Killing of Hodan Hashi
Written by Justice for Hodan HashiSaturday, November 5, 2022, marks the loss of our beloved sister Hodan Hashi a kind-hearted, smart, caring, and selfless person who was tragically killed after a violent and brazen attack that took her life.
We are deeply saddened and heartbroken for the loss of our sister Hodan Hashi.
The killing of our sister Hodan Hashi exemplifies the stark reality for Black Muslim women across Canada and more specifically in the Prairies region. Dozens of people bared witness to the brutal and public killing of our beloved sister. This is utterly unacceptable for a society to minimize the humanity of Black Muslim women with callous indifference. We stand in solidarity shoulder to shoulder, arm in arm to challenge a system that normalizes violence and killing committed against our sisters. Enough is Enough.
The purpose of these vigils is to mourn, remember, stand together, and create awareness of the loss of our dear sister Hodan. These community gatherings will honour the life of Hodan, and the message is clear, we are demanding justice. We are disappointed, outraged, and besieged with the way that the criminal case that resulted in the killing of Hodan Hashi has been handled so far.
