Syrian Canadian Foundation's Response to Announcement of Canadian Support for Syria

Yesterday, Canada announced new measures to support peace, stability, and humanitarian relief for all Syrians:

$84 million in new humanitarian aid, bringing total assistance this year to over $100 million to provide food, health services, protection, and sanitation for those in need.

Easing of certain economic sanctions to allow the stable and sustainable delivery of aid and support local redevelopment efforts.

.

Restoring diplomatic engagement, with Canada’s Ambassador to Lebanon now also serving as non-resident Ambassador to Syria, ensuring greater international coordination for peace and political stabilization.

The Syrian Canadian Foundation is proud to be part of this positive outcome, an announcement that reflects months of dedicated advocacy by the Syrian community in Canada and the tireless efforts of The Honourable Omar Alghabra, Canada’s Special Envoy for Syria. His leadership and commitment have been instrumental in shaping Canada’s evolving role in supporting Syria.

Canada has once again proven itself to be a true friend of the Syrian people, and for that, we are deeply grateful. We look forward to working hand in hand to turn this announcement into action, and action into hope for a stronger, free Syria.
