National Zakat Foundation (NZF), a steadfast advocate for empowering local Muslims in need, is proud to announce that Nisa Homes, a distinguished initiative established as a project of NZF Canada in 2015, will be joining together with Nisa Helpline to operate under the umbrella of Nisa Foundation. This strategic decision aims to enhance operational efficiency and create an organization like no other, that offers a wide range of services dedicated to supporting and empowering women and children across Canada.

"Nisa Homes has achieved a remarkable transformation over the years, sheltering over 1,600 women and children, and supporting over 10,000 more. Its evolution, from a single transitional home in Mississauga, ON, to a network of ten homes across the nation is a testament to the community’s dedication in protecting vulnerable women and children,” said Zubair Qasim, Executive Director of NZF Canada. “By now integrating under Nisa Foundation, the Canadian Muslim community will see a new era of women’s empowerment, with an organization solely dedicated to ensuring women have access to holistic services under one roof.”

As the sole organization providing comprehensive programs and services tailored to the unique needs of Muslim women across Canada, Nisa Foundation aims to transform communities. Engaging, equipping and enriching the lives of women and children will empower them to reach their full potential.

“We know that when women and girls are supported and empowered, they invest more into their families and communities, which means their communities thrive and flourish as a result,” said Yasmine Youssef, Executive Director of Nisa Foundation. “This is more than a union of two organizations or a rebranding; it’s a reaffirmation of our Canadian and Islamic values of making a systemic and sustainable difference in the lives of women and children across Canada.”

Rooted in both Canadian ideals of respect, equality, and compassion and Islamic principles of justice, mercy, and community welfare, our current Homes and Helpline programs have always been a beacon of hope for many. The new brand identity captures and expands upon these principles to change the lives of even more marginalized women across Canada.

Nisa Helpline has served as a lifeline for many seeking guidance, receiving over 52,000 calls for holistic support. Nisa Homes has provided a sanctuary for over 1,600 women and children at our 10 homes from coast to coast and assisted over 10,000 more with resources and support. Together, their integration under Nisa Foundation will optimize resources, expand reach, and foster collaborations to better serve the growing needs of the community.

This change will include rebranding as well as more detailed communication with our stakeholders, including major donors, social media followers, email subscribers, and staff. The foundation believes that by strengthening the bond between its varied programs and the core foundation, it can achieve even greater impact.
