The violence in Israel and Palestine has reached brutal and devastating levels in recent weeks. Thousands have been killed and injured. Witnessing the extreme violence against civilians has been polarizing for many around the world.
Justice For All Canada, a nonprofit human rights advocacy organization, along with partnering human rights and civil society organizations, organized a press conference on Monday, October 30th at 11 a.m. EST at Parliament Hill to introduce a campaign focused on urging the Government of Canada to call for a ceasefire to prevent further loss of civilian life in Gaza, the Occupied West Bank, and Israel.

Moments ago constituents across the country took over 17 MP offices in 12 cities from coast to coast and have begun to read out the over 8,000 names of Palestinians who have been killed by Israel since October 8, and to call on MPs to demand a ceasefire and an end to Canada’s complicity in Israeli apartheid. Protests are also underway outside many of the MP offices, while the offices and windows have been covered with signs.

The Coalition of the Canadian Palestinian Organizations expresses profound concern regarding the continuing violence in Palestine and Israel. We firmly object to statements that unconditionally support the Israeli government, as they perpetuate a troubling trend of overlooking the underlying causes of this violence. We firmly assert that the loss of civilian lives is never acceptable. Nevertheless, the violence we are witnessing today underscores the daily hardships faced by Palestinians, whether due to Israel's severe blockade of Gaza, persistent attacks on Palestinian civilians by settlers, or the unlawful occupation of Palestinian territories.
