Shelter for Muslim Women Doubles Capacity Thanks to BC Housing
Written by Nisa FoundationEvery 24 hours, 140 women and children are turned away from housing in British Columbia. (BCSTH Census, 2024)
That heartbreaking reality is why we’re sharing some very special news with you today:
Nisa Homes Vancouver has expanded — and is now able to serve more women and children than ever before.
Thanks to the support of BC Housing, our shelter has doubled in capacity, giving more survivors of violence, poverty, and homelessness the chance to rebuild their lives in safety and dignity.
What’s New at Nisa Homes Vancouver:
Bigger Capacity: We can now house up to 24 residents at a time — with beds for 10 women and 14 children — in a culturally responsive, trauma-informed environment.
Second-Stage Housing: A new transitional unit allows families to stay for up to 18 months as they regain stability and independence.
Accessible Suite: Designed with a private bathroom and stair lift, this space ensures comfort and accessibility for women with mobility challenges.
24-Hour On-Site Staff: Trained staff are now available around the clock to support medical, emotional, and crisis-related needs.
This expansion was made possible by BC Housing, as part of the Province’s commitment to increasing shelter options for survivors of violence.
But our work isn’t done yet. We continue to rely on community support to provide the essential wraparound services that make healing possible, including:
Mental health counselling
Children & youth programming
Financial support for essentials like rent, groceries, and transportation
Thank you for helping us build more than a shelter — thank you for building a future.
