Nisa Homes: Let's Unite to End Violence Against Women 16 Days

[November 25] marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence, a campaign that unites people from all over the world to break the silence, start conversations to raise awareness and renew their dedication to ending violence against women and girls.

Over the past 3 years, violence against women in Canada has grown by 30%, impacting people across all cultures and religions. Join us as we unite against it, so that we can correct it and heal from it.

The Muslim community is not immune to these numbers. These are our mothers, our sisters, our daughters and our friends -- their lives tragically cut short at the hands of senseless violence.

.

The violence and the loss of life are preventable.

As a community, we need to unite to protect our women and children, foster a supportive and safe environment for them to seek help, and lay the foundation for thriving communities!

Many of our women are forced to make the hard choice of staying in abusive relationships and homes due to barriers like the lack of affordable housing and difficulty accessing resources. For those who do try and leave, many are faced with Islamophobia, shamed by their community, or are left homeless.

They need safe, supportive environments to access help and heal.

Since 2015, we’ve grown significantly, establishing ten shelters nationwide that have provided safe shelter for over 1,700 women and children. Our impact goes beyond sheltering as we received over 52,000 calls for holistic helpline support. Together, Nisa Homes and Nisa Helpline have empowered thousands of women to reclaim their lives and independence, providing the tools and support needed to thrive.

Nisa Foundation programs - Nisa Homes, Nisa Helpline, and Nisa Learning - aim to transform communities by tackling these different barriers & violence against women through not just our shelters and mental health counselling, but also through prevention and educational workshops to address the root cause. But we need your help to do this!

.

Nisa Foundation, stemming from the union of esteemed charities Nisa Helpline and Nisa Homes (formerly a part of the National Zakat Foundation Canada) serves as a pillar of support for all Muslim women and children across Canada, regardless of background and status. As they navigate the unique challenges of domestic violence, homelessness, and mental health issues, we stand as the only organization uniquely tailored to address their needs.
